LASER IN THE AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY
The development of the SLCR process originated in the aviation industry. Paint stripping of aircraft and their components is an integral part of regular preventive maintenance work. In addition, the increasingly used fiber composite components require new solutions for surface preparation as a mandatory prerequisite for further processing of the components during bonding or painting. The SLCR process for surface preparation has already become well established in the aerospace sector and already has the necessary approvals in many areas. Only by using light can the SLCR process, in contrast to conventional processes without additives such as chemicals, abrasives or other mechanical or liquid aids, perform surface preparation quickly, cleanly and precisely without post-treatment.
Thus, the SLCR process not only improves processes and reduces unit costs, but also protects the environment and significantly improves working conditions.
APPLICATIONS OF LASERS IN THE AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY
Activation & Pre-Treatment
Fiber composites are activated by laser. Loose solvent residues and impurities are removed and by simultaneous roughening of the surface, a well paint adhesion is achieved or surfaces are prepared for bonding.
Paint Stripping & Decoating
Targeted removal of paints and coatings on parts and components, serve as preparation for subsequent processes.
Marking
Non-contact, permanent marking of fiber composites or metals, e.g. application of serial numbers or company logos. hi
